Literature Text

When you two finally reached the barn the first thing you did was run back to your house, that was a little distance away, and search for medical supplies for the wounded dragon. He assured you on the way that it was just a scratch to a dragon who could handle pain but that just made you worry even more. In your house you found some alcohol, bandages, string, and a needle with haste but just as you were about to open the door your brother decided to make an entrance. “_____, are you okay? Why are you in such a hurry to go out this late?” Shocked, you quickly hid the items behind your back before he noticed them and grew even more suspicious.

“N-nothing! I just… Um, the gate was left open so I was just going to close it,” You praised yourself for thinking of a good excuse at such short notice, hopefully he would believe it.

“I could go shut it, it’s cold outside anyway and I don’t want you getting sick,” he made his way over to you but you continued to block the door making him look at you with worry. “Are you sure you’re alright little sister?”

“Please (b/n), I can do it on my own, I promise,” You tried to assure him with a sweet sisterly smile. It was in his nature to worry about his family but it would be nice if he trusted you on your own for once. He didn't reply but simply nodded his head and stepped back which you took as your cue to leave. “Thank you, I owe you one!”

You paced yourself when walking out of the door to not pique his curiosity anymore than it already was. Once the door was closed however you began to race back to the barn. It was already dusk and the lights from the village nearby were going out one by one and the sounds of night creatures from the forest were beginning to appear.

At the entrance of the barn you had to hug your (f/c) coat closer to yourself due to the dragons freezing temperature. He was laying his head down on a hay bale and staring at one of the horses looking as bored as ever. You tucked a piece of (h/c) hair behind your ear as you walked over to his wounds, he seemed to have noticed you already so you didn't feel the need to announce your arrival.

Quickly you began to poured some alcohol on both of his wounds causing him to twitch in discomfort. ‘Are you positive you know the correct procedure of this delicate action? I don’t exactly trust you with my life you know,’ His voice caused your (e/c) eyes to widen and made you  jump in fear, still not used to his voice being able to invade your mind, and accidentally pour more into his wound. A growl erupted from his throat and made you take a few quick but cautious steps back while stuttering a ‘sorry!’. ‘Jumpy little human, be more careful! If you only knew who you were caring for you would show more respect!’ Lukas was glaring at you by now but when he saw your scared form a glimmer of regret shown in his seemingly emotionless eyes.

After he calmed down from his little fit your shaky hands were able to begin putting the bandages on his cold blue scales that were being tainted in red. However, his sentence only added to the amount of questions you already had. Why did he need the ring? Why did he kill that other dragon? Why did he not kill you when you first met? How he could even talk to you was still a mystery.

Those questions buzzed for attention as you knelt down beside his wing to the next job of sewing it back up to help it heal, a task he was not eager to participate in. “I’m just curious… How are you… You know, able to talk to me?”

‘Only those who are worthy of a dragons knowledge can perceive them but we are also allowed to choose the thoughts that we give out to another. Consider yourself privileged.’

“I've heard that oracles can hear all of their thoughts, is that true?”

At this question his tail flickered in irritation, ‘Hm, sadly you are correct, which is why we don’t converse with humans very often, it is too risky to speak with an oracle and too rare to find a worthy human.’

“Do you think I-” The door of the barn was suddenly barged open, interrupting your sentence and creating a new tear in the dragons wing when you jumped. Being just as surprised as you were Lukas jumped to his feet, pushed you behind his front leg, and bared his sharp teeth and growled in anger at the stranger. (b/n) was standing at the entrance looking terrified, his sister had just been thrown to the floor behind a very large and very angry dragon.

He snapped out of his daze quickly and grabbed the nearest weapon shouting, “_____! Get away from here! Run!”

You rushed to your feet as fast as you could and stepped in front of Lukas then held out your hands in a ‘don’t-hurt-him’ position. “Stop it (b/n)! He’s harmless I swear! I promise he won't hurt us!” You were mostly scared for your brothers life considering that Lukas would have no problem killing him if need be, injured or not. Your brother stood there shocked that you were defending a beast that could kill you with a swipe of his wrist.

“_____, you've gone mad look at him! He’s a dragon!” His (e/c) eyes were wide in fear but they never once left the dark blue one’s of the dragon and vice versa.

“Just calm down and listen to me (b/n)! He’s… H-he’s a good dragon, I-I know he w-wouldn't harm u-us.” That sentence was hard to stutter out, you knew that he hasn't hurt you yet but that didn't make him ‘good.’ Honestly, you didn't even know anything about him, how could you trust him? That question would have to wait for later, right now you were trying to stop a fight from breaking out. Well… More of a ‘if your don’t stop your brother then the dragon will.’

Deciding to take matters into his own hands, Lukas stepped forward and ripped the sword out from your brothers frozen hands while muttering ‘Ignorant human,’ under his breath. Now that the threat was gone, Lukas laid down on the floor once more beside you, his tail wrapped around your ankles urging you over to resume your work.

“I-I need to speak with my brother for a second... I’ll be right back,” Your breathed out then walked over to where your brother was, who was still as fearful as ever. He grabbed your wrist and pulled you out of the barn and away from Lukas.

“Have you gone mad?! That thing will kill you!”

You managed to calm him down enough to explain what happened over the course of a few hours. You told him everything from meeting him, to being able to talk to him, etc. The knowledge made him even more worried than he already was, “What if the king finds out? He’ll take you to the castle and use you to get information, then the dragon will turn on you because you betrayed him! If you end up siding with the dragon then who knows what else could happen, there could be more dragons just waiting around the corner! You’re going to get yourself killed either way, _____!”

“(b/n) trust me, please! I can handle myself, plus Lukas won’t be here long it’s just until he heals,” You looked up at him with bright (e/c) eyes trying to assure him.

His brows were furrowed in anger, but you could tell it was also worry, and ran a hand through his (h/c) hair before sighing in defeat. “I give up, it’s hard trying to change your mind once you've made a decision, stubborn little thing,” He added a smile, “Just let me be with you while you’re near him, just in case.’

You agreed with a grin and went back in the barn to finish your job. Lukas met your (e/c) eyes when you walked in and you two exchanged a silent agreement with a nod. Your brother however kept a constant glare on him which made you uncomfortable but it didn't seem to bother Lukas. When you were done sewing his wing it was about midnight so you and your brother went back home leaving Lukas alone in the barn.
Not really a cliffhanger at the end but the next chapter will be more interesting! ;D Also, sorry if the brother seems a little too protective but I don't have a brother, or a sister for that matter, so I don't know how they are supposed to act... I was stuck between him being a teasing brother or a over-protective one but the latter fit the chapter better. More questions will be answered in the next chapter but it will also take some time to write but I hope to be done with it before Comic Con on the 7th and 8th, which I wait all year for! :la:

Ciao!~
